December 10, 2020 ……..What I’ve Been Listening to Lately
December 5, 2020
A long road trip home from Maine was a great chance to spin a couple CDs.
In honor of the passing of Eddie Van Halen, I decided to listen to The Best of Both Worlds, which I hadn’t yet given a close listen. Van Halen’s guitar virtuosity is discussed at length in Walser’s book (see Books, right), and that was just the push I needed. Now I understand why Walser spent so much time discussing Van Halen!
I also returned to a current favorite, Battles by In Flames. I love its angsty lyrics, moody melodies and great choruses, and of course, the always-fantastic guitars. Check out a track here.
An advantage of being back home with Wifi (no Wifi yet in my Maine house) is that I can spend more time tracking down music and listening to bands who’ve kindly chosen to follow me on social media. I am committed to following through and checking each one out.
I started with Burden of the Sky. New to me, they’ve been around the better part of a decade. I started on their webpage and listened to a bunch of tracks from their most recent album, Sine Timore. I really enjoyed their creative, polished sound. Check out the video for Catalyst.
Another band I discovered is The Red Moons. If you like Nirvana, you should give them a listen! Check them out on Bandcamp.
